Welcome to Blackgirlpreserve!
Hello everybody! My name is Maya and I am a first year student in the Master of Heritage Preservation program at Georgia State University working to preserve Black material culture.
Let’s Get into it!
1. Why this, why now?
I am very excited to use Substack! I want a place to share my academic writing and build community with other people interested in the same ideas. I am new to Atlanta and preservation but I am bringing my expereince as a historian and an educator to the program.
2. What kind of community am I looking to build here?
This is a space for me to share my writing and projects with classmates, friends, and lke minded individuals. I want this to be a space where people can critique my writing and share their thoughts. Rip me to shreads, respectfully of course.
3. How often will I post?
I will try to post a few times a semester. I am just getting started and I am very new to this website. I am about to post a ton of essays and play around with visuals in the upcoming days. This will change as I explore what Substack is capable of.
4. Reflections Newsletter
In addition to my course work, I will also share the Reflections newsletters that I contribute to and edit for the Georgia’s SHPO. I have an internship in the Historic Preservation Department under African American programs. The newsletter comes out quarterly.
